a safe place

When women enter our shelter, they are truly in crisis mode.

Who We Serve

Mary & Martha House services are designed for women and children who are temporarily homeless due to a crisis situation such as domestic violence, eviction, sudden reduction in income, or job loss. Many of our clients are experiencing homelessness for the first time.

Silent Witnesses

Some of the biggest victims of domestic violence and homelessness are the smallest. For some children, home is not a safe place.

"Homeless" is not who you think…

Women’s homelessness is rarely a consequence of a single event. It is often a culmination of a series of events, which together result in housing and employment instability.
Transforming Lives

An evidence-based model based on three pillars:

Shelter

When women enter our shelter, they are truly in crisis mode. Often, women stay with their abusers because the only other choice is homelessness. Mary & Martha’s three shelters provide a safe haven for victims to escape abuse and begin recovery. Our shelters are designed to be just like home, with each family having their own space.

Support

Much like the wise Mary from the Bible, we know that it’s not just busy work that achieves results – it is the “good part.” Mary & Martha House provides individualized case management, which is the key to giving clients what they need to succeed. Spending time with each other, building relationships, and trust enables us to mend hearts, grow minds, and build spirit.

Sucess

At Mary & Martha we take every opportunity to celebrate success – even the smallest ones. Our clients learn how to build their confidence. This sense of achievement gives them the determination they need to keep working so they can achieve ultimate success: acquiring job skills, finding employment, and moving on to permanent housing.

Our Programs

A Safe Haven & Real Work Experience

Healing & Hope

Most shelters only allow women to stay for six weeks. Because they are forced to leave, 85% go back to their abuser; because their only other option is homelessness. Our unique services are designed for women and children who are temporarily homeless due to a crisis situation.

Employment Readiness Program

We help clients to assess their work environment and adapt and enhance their workplace skills to make them more employable. Through personalized consultations and tailored strategies, our program helps clients to recognize their unique strengths and weaknesses within their work settings, enabling them to achieve their career goals.

Retail 101 Program

We provide hands-on experience at the Mary and Martha House Fashion & Home Goods store through 5 training modules; customer service, merchandising, store display, cash handling and store operations. This immersive training not only equips individuals with practical skills but also instills an understanding of the of the retail industry, preparing them for successful outcomes.
