Healing & Hope.

Our services are designed for women and children who are temporarily homeless due to a crisis situation.

Transforming Lives

When women enter Mary & Martha House, their lives are broken from battle and they are desperate for help. Mary & Martha House guides victims of domestic violence on a path to healing & hope, recovery & rebuilding, self-reliance & success.

The Mary & Martha House has an evidence-based model based on three pillars:  Shelter. Support. Success.

    Shelter

Research shows that many women stay with their abusers because their only other choice is homelessness. Mary & Martha’s three shelters provide a safe haven for victims to escape abuse and begin recovery.

Our shelters are designed to be as much like home as possible, with each family having their own space and programs designed to encourage self-reliance.

    Support

Much like the wise Mary from the Bible, we know that it’s not just busy work that achieves results – it is the “good part.” Mary & Martha House provides individualized case management, which we have found is the key to giving our clients what they need to actually succeed.

It is through spending time with each other, building relationships, and trust that we are truly able to mend hearts, grow minds and build spirit.

    Success

At Mary & Martha we take every opportunity to celebrate success – even the smallest ones.

Our clients learn from the beginning to build their confidence. This sense of achievement gives them the determination they need to keep working so they can achieve the ultimate success: acquiring job skills, finding employment and moving on to permanent housing.

    Real Work Experience

    Who We Serve

Mary & Martha House services are designed for women and children who are temporarily homeless due to a crisis situation such as domestic violence, eviction, sudden reduction in income, or job loss.  Many of our clients are experiencing homelessness for the first time.

Homeless is not who you think…

We know that women’s homelessness is rarely a consequence of a single event.  It is often a culmination of a series of events, which together result in housing and employment instability.

Unfortunately, most shelters only allow women to stay for six weeks.  Because they are forced to leave, 85% go back to their abuser; because their only other option is homelessness.

    For the Children

Millions of children are exposed to violence every year. These children become fearful and anxious. They are always on guard, watching and waiting for the next event to occur. They are expected to keep the family secret. They are in terrible pain. Their family life can be chaotic and stressful. They feel embarrassment, hopelessness, humiliation and rage. Worst of all they blame themselves for the abuse.

Mary and Martha House opens it’s doors and our services not only to keep these children safe, but to give their mothers the foundation and training they need to become independent and escape their abuser.
